Our Principal’s Message
THE MERIDIAN KALEIDOSCOPE
A kaleidoscope is an instrument for creating beautiful images. Peer into one end of a kaleidoscope and one would be dazzled by intricate patterns and pictures formed by the multiple reflections of a myriad of colourful elements. Turn the kaleidoscope, and one would see these magnificent images change and grow in beauty.
MJC is very much like a kaleidoscope. It is made up of so many different elements – students, teachers, support staff, parents, alumni, the College Advisory Committee and the community partners. And like a kaleidoscope, in the college’s daily turns, these different elements come together to form beautiful canvases of intricate sparkling patterns. These patterns could be the excellent outcomes of our Meridians in academics and CCAs ; these patterns could also be the expression of our Meridians’ passion and commitment in leadership, service and VIA projects.
Navigating through our website is like looking into such a kaleidoscope: as you make your way through our pages, you will catch a glimpse of the culture of purposeful work and passionate play in MJC. You may see snap-shots of our exciting programmes and the enriching experiences the students go through, and the commitment of our staff, students and partners to breathing life into the Meridian experience. You may also see the various success stories of our Meridian alumni and the different pathways they have chosen to pursue, taking the Meridian Edge further, always in search of that highest star in whatever they do.
In April 2017, it was announced that Meridian JC will be merging with Tampines JC by 2019 as part of a wider ministry-wide move in anticipation of a smaller student population. MJC will be the site of newly-merged college. While change is never easy, we could embrace the merger as the construction of a newer, bigger and more interesting kaleidoscope.
With more students and staff, more subjects and CCAs offered, the kaleidoscope, that is the newly-merged JC, will certainly be able to create even more fascinatingly beautiful images. For example, the college will be offering, from 2018, new subjects such as Malay Language Elective Programme, Theatre Studies, Art, and new CCAs such as netball and hockey. This means our students will have opportunities to learn and grow in even more areas and puruse their passions along more varied pathways.
2018 promises to be an exciting year, with new opportunities to be seized, new experiences to be had, new relationships to be forged. In the coming year, I wish all Meridians, past and present, can take the time to peer into the Meridian kaleidoscope to appreciate the many beautiful images created over the years.
And I extend the warmest invitation to JC-ready students and their parents to look through our kaleidoscope, soak in the passion that drives the college, and the excellent outcomes we have achieved, and make the decision to join our family.
